Morvoren is a rectangular wrap inspired by the legend of the Mermaid of Zennor and the carved wooden bench in Zennor church.

Written for fingering/heavy laceweight yarn, it takes one skein each of contrasting and preferably solid/tonal colours which will allow the textured stitch patterns to shine.

My sample used Norne Yarn Merino/Yak/Silk singles (120g / 480m per skein), 1 skein each of Gullinbuste and Midgardsormr.

Each edge of the wrap is worked in one colour only, with a mirrored set of motifs representing rope cables, mermaid scales and the mermaid’s mirror. The colours come together in the central syncopated brioche section of interlocking waves. This section is worked in a single pass rather than the traditional “colour A, slide, colour B, turn” sequence of brioche knitting - but the pattern includes a tutorial video for how I worked this in a single pass.

The pattern includes width modification suggestions and a calculation table to estimate the length you can work based on the amount of yarn you have and how much the first repeat uses - it’s very easy to adapt the length by just continuing to work the chart.

The pattern includes full written and charted instructions.
