There is something so special about putting on a cozy hat while embarking on a hike in the crisp air. I imagine the Mountain Mama Hat as a companion for expansive hikes. And I also imagine it for those us who are longing for some mountains and adventure.

I loved knitting up these hats so much, I made two! Ali of Explorer Knits and Fibers generously provided yarn support for this project.

Sometimes I find myself longing for a future adventure, whether that be exploring out West or traveling across the globe. I like to think of my knitting as a way I get to travel from my bedroom. Using Ali’s special National Park, and Into the Wild colorways allowed me to immerse myself in the imagination of adventure (even while living In my city apartment!)

NEEDLES
Smaller Needles: 3.25 mm • US size 3
Larger Needles: 4 mm • US size 6
Use your preferred circular knitting method, I opted to use a 16” (40cm) and 32” (82cm) circular needles.

NOTIONS
Crochet hook, scissors, stitch markers (7-10 markers) & darning needle

GAUGE (4 x 4”) (10 x 10cm)
24 sts x 36 rounds in stockinette, worked in the round after blocking.

SIZING
A: Designed for 20-22” (51-56 cm) heads // Unstretched hat circumference 18.5” (47 cm)
B: Designed for 23-24” (57-61 cm) heads // Unstretched hat circumference 21” (53 cm)
Please note, the stockinette brim provides less stretch than the ribbed brim.
Both samples are in size A and worn on a 21.5” (55 cm) head.
