Mountain Mitts
The construction is similar to my Guadalupe Mitts, with a different thumb approach so the 4-row band repeats can stay in sync. I also include a thumbless version with an extra band.
Includes fully illustrated instructions for Judy’s Magic Cast-On (JMCO) along with a link to my video tutorial.
This design celebrates the 25th anniversary of Mountain Colors, a company whose dreamy palette I fell in love with long before I became a professional knit designer with the publication of my first book in 2001. When I met and became friends with owners and dye-masters, Diana and Leslie, I learned that their harmonious colorways with poetic names arise from the Montana landscape where they live—literally, the colors of the mountains, rivers, foliage, and wildlife. These mitts, worked flat in garter stitch with a design band that highlights the shifting shades of the yarn, are a soothing, rhythmic knit and are meant to honor Diana and Leslie’s quarter century of devotion to all of us.
Note: If you are wondering about the woven stones, those are Salish Sea Stones from our local beaches on San Juan Island (just south of the British Columbia border). For more information, check out my Weaving for Knitters Retreats at www.catbordhi.com.
