Move Closer is an invitation to nearness; cosy up, cuddle, hug, get nearer, slow dance (thank you Phyllis Nelson!).
This shawl is a two-colour asymmetric shawl with bands of lace interspersed with stripes that vary between garter and a stocking stitch/garter stitch combination. As the shawl progresses the lace bands get closer together and each band of stripes transitions from garter stitch in Yarn A through garter/stocking stitch, garter and stocking stitch/garter.
Move Closer is worked in Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light for a fabulous squish of a shawl but is suitable for almost any fingering weight yarn. The larger of the two sizes uses one skein of Yarn A and two of Yarn B. A smaller version uses one skein of each.
REQUIREMENTS
Yarn: Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light; two skeins for the smaller version (1 x Yarn A and 1 x Yarn B) and three skeins for the larger (1 x Yarn A and 2 x Yarn B). If using a variegated or speckle for one yarn I would suggest that be used as Yarn A so that the lace is worked in a solid or semi-solid Yarn B.
Alternative Suitable Yarns:
Posh Yarns Iris Sock (366m/100g)
The Uncommon Thread Everyday Singles (366m/100g)

Most fingering weight yarns would be excellent.
Needles and accessories: 3.75mm (US5) and a 4.5mm (US7) needle for the bind off, stitch markers, yarn needle and blocking pins.
Gauge is really not important on this shawl but mine was 22 stitches to 4” in garter stitch before blocking and 18 stitches to 4” after gentle blocking using a 3.75mm (US5) needle taken over garter stitch using Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light. A difference in gauge will result in a change in yarn requirements and finished size.
Sizes: Large worked as written 86” (219cm) wide along top edge, 20” (51cm) deep before blocking and
100” (254cm) wide along top edge, 21.5” (55cm) deep after.
The smaller version measured 74” (188cm) wide along top edge, 16.5” (42cm) deep before blocking and
88” (224cm) wide along top edge, 18” (46cm) deep after. All measurements taken using Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light and are given as a guide only.
Shape: Asymmetric triangle worked sideways from narrow point to end.
You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer or colour bead placement and aspects of the pattern in coloured pencils.
The pattern is both fully written and charted throughout.
