Mrs Claus’ Cardigan Sweater

Knit this stranded, boxy cardigan sweater in-the-round on circular needles from the hemmed bottom up, with fully patterned steeked center front, neck and armholes. Sleeves are picked up and knit down to the hemmed cuffs. 7 Faroe inspired jacquard color stitch patterns are included.

(Steek finishing skills are assumed..see matching RED STEEKED HEADBAND (or cowl!) pattern for full steeking and gauge help).

Gauge: 6 stitches and 7 rounds = 1” in stranded, two-color pattern stitch using largest needle

The best way to determine which needle size will give an accurate gauge is to make a circular swatch with the yarn to be used. Make a 2 color stranded swatch testing similar needle sizes until the correct gauge is achieved. Some yarns and gauges will stretch when washed and blocked. Be flexible enough to change the needles if needed, and keep careful notes.

Needles: 32” circular needles: US#2 and #4 OR #3 and #5 (as needed for gauge)
16” circular needle US#4 OR #5 (or as needed for gauge)
12” circular needle US#4 OR #5 (or as needed for gauge) for lower sleeves OR dbl pointed ndls
Double pointed needles (sleeve hem) US#2 OR #3 (or as needed for gauge)
Crochet hook US #C/2.25 mm + 5 yards smooth waste yarn
7 Double Ended Stitch Holders
Needle Felting tools: 5 needle punch, single needle punch and brush felting base
5-7 ½” buttons
Tapestry needle that will fit, threaded with yarn, though the buttons
Post It Notes/Highlighter Tape/magnetic board (for following charts)
