Mulberry Slouch

The unique Mulberry Slouch is constructed differently from most hats: Rather than decreasing at the crown, the top is closed with a line of double decreases and the corners are sewn together. The two-color slip-stitch pattern creates the pops of color with the Merino wool yarn.

Yarn Weight 1
Finished Size 15¾ (17¾, 20)“ and 8¼ (9, 9¾)” tall. Hat shown measures 17¾“.
Yarn SweetGeorgia Yarns Tough Love Sock (80% superwash Merino wool, 20% nylon; 425 yd 388 m/4 oz 113 g): London Fog (MC) and Mulberry (CC), 1 skein each.
Needles Size 2 (2.75 mm): 16” circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Marker (m); waste yarn for provisional CO; size C/2 (2.75 mm) crochet hook; spare size 2 (2.75 mm) or smaller 16” cir needle; tapestry needle.
Gauge 30 sts and 70 rnds = 4” in Sl st patt.

This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, beginning with a doubled hem. The top is closed with a line of centered double decreases and the corners are sewn together.

Slip stitches purlwise with yarn in back.

Do not break yarn at color changes; carry unused yarn along inside of work until needed again.
