This soft, cozy hat can be knit in just a few hours with affordable, easy-care yarn, making it a perfect project for gifting and charity knitting. The pattern is also a great way to use up small amounts of super-bulky yarn that are leftover from knitting a blanket or other large project.

The hat is knit sideways in garter stitch stripes, with a 3-stitch i-cord edging around the brim that is worked simultaneously. The pattern begins with a provisional Judy’s magic cast-on and uses German short rows for shaping. After knitting, the hat is grafted together with Kitchener stitch.

If desired, the finished dimensions of the hat would be very simple to modify by altering the number of stripes per wedge, the number of wedges that are worked, or the yarn/gauge that is used.

The hat is likewise very customizable in regards to the color scheme: the white and blue yarns that are called for in the pattern would be great for Hanukkah, but red and white stripes could be used instead for a Christmas hat, or the hat can be knitted in the colors of a favorite sports team, or any color combinations that the knitter/intended recipient would enjoy.
