Do you have a favourite skein of sock yarn and want a pattern that shows it off? Well you need a simple design as you don’t want the stitch pattern to compete with the beauty of the yarn.
This simple shawlette is the perfect match. It can be made with one skein of sock yarn and in 2 variations, with 2 choices of border. It works from the point upwards and you stop increasing once you have used a certain proportion of the yarn – instructions are given for this calculation, which is easy!
For the solid version I used a skein of sock yarn which was 430m long to make a shawlette approx. 150cm by 40cm when blocked. For the open version I used a 400m skein of sock yarn and the finished size was approx. 170cm by 50cm when blocked.
However, it can be made in any yarn provided you use a suitable hook size.
Pattern is written in English crochet terms (US terms also shown for reference) and is charted.
