My Mushroom Pillow uses tapestry crochet to create mushrooms. I have been wanting to crochet fairytale inspired mushrooms for a while now, so I made this square for my upcoming books blanket in which each square is inspired by a book. I really enjoyed making the square, so I decided to also make a pillow version of it!
Tapestry crochet is used for the front side. It is a technique where color changes occur within the rows and the other colors are held against the work, so there are not a lot of ends to weave in. If you are new to this technique, there is a photo tutorial and explanation to demonstrate it. The back of the pillow is simply a pink granny square. Five buttons hold the bottom of the pillow together, so it can be taken on and off the insert.
I used Rowan Handknit Cotton yarn: 2 in gooseberry (green), 2 in raspberry, 2 in ecru (cream), and 2 in sugar (pink); however, any DK weight yarn will work! Additionally, you will need 5 buttons (1.5 cm in diameter), and a 14 by 14 inch pillow insert.
The written pattern includes some photos to explain the steps, and a color chart for the front side. I hope you enjoy the pattern!
