Mushroom Pillow
This mushroom pattern uses one of my favorite crochet techniques to change color- tapestry crochet. If you are new to tapestry crochet, there are two videos on my YouTube channel to explain the process and the pattern includes a photo tutorial. The back of the pillow is a granny square, and the bottom is held together by five buttons, so the pillowcase can easily be taken on and off the insert.
The pattern also contains some pictures to explain the steps, a color chart, and the pattern for the mushroom swatch (last picture above).
Materials: 3.5 mm crochet hook, scissors, tapestry needle (for weaving in ends), 14 by 14 in (35 by 35 cm) square pillow insert, 5 buttons (1.5 cm in diameter), and dk weight yarn.
Yarn I Used: Rowan Handknit Cotton (100% cotton; 93 yd (85 m) / 50 g skeins)- 2 gooseberry (green), 2 raspberry (raspberry), 2 ecru (cream), and 2 sugar (pink).
If you are using a different yarn and would like your pillow to be the same size as mine, compare the yd / g to see if it would be a good substitute. Otherwise, measure the front side when it is finished, and it will fit a pillow insert that is 1-2 in (2.5- 5 cm) longer than it!
I hope you enjoy the pattern! I updated this pattern in August 2025, so if you previously downloaded it, make sure to download the updated version in your pattern library.
