I lost some of my favorite volunteer activities due to the pandemic. My time as a hospice volunteer meant a great deal to me, I learned so much about living from the people I met. The pandemic forced the hospice to close. An opportunity to be a language partner for Naeko, a Japanese woman, presented itself and I took it. We began meeting via Zoom, and soon she added a friend, Seung-Hee, who is Korean. Once a week we meet to practice English, read together and just talk about our lives. Meeting and talking with them brings me such joy! One day, Naeko wore a jersey that caught my eye with a pretty all-over floral pattern. Little hydrangea-like floral shapes became the model for a cowl motif. Worked with Cascade Aran, it knits up quickly and can be a great stash buster!

Want an even wider cowl? Add one or more chart repeats and add yardage.. Want to substitute worsted weight? Go down a needle size and work the Looser chart for a Tighter size, add one repeat to the Looser Chart (to total 132 sts) for a worsted Looser size.

Looser Yardage is slightly more than 1 skein of MC. To work LOOSER Size with just one skein of MC, rib can be worked in CC as rib is turned in and whipstitched to wrong side of work. Switch to MC immediately after 6 rib rounds.
