Whether you choose colours for their nearness or their contrast, this shawl is bound to be near to your heart!

Designed to be worked in three colours the world is your oyster – go for it and paint the town red or surround yourself in soft romantic colours – the choice is yours! As Yarns B and C are not worked adjacent to each other you could work this shawl in two colours using Yarn B for all rows marked B and C (you will then need two skeins of Yarn B).

Knit this for someone near to you, knit it for you, knit it again – with each change of colour this shawl will take on a different personality – near but not quite the same!

REQUIREMENTS
Size: As written – 87” (221cm) wide, 22.5” (57cm) deep, though the shawl is easily enlarged or reduced by working Chart 2 fewer or additional times – this will result in an increase in yardage and bead requirements. Measurements taken using Skein Queen Selkino Fingering. Note that measurements will differ depending on yarn, tension, blocking etc and these are therefore given as a guide only.
Yarn: Three skeins of Skein Queen Selkino Fingering, Green Tea Yarns Osmanthus, Martin’s Lab Silky Singles, Qing Fibres Silky Merino Singles, Northbound Knitting Merino/Silk Fingering Singles, The Uncommon Thread Silky Singles –each of the three skeins a different colour. I used the darkest for Yarn A, medium for Yarn B and the palest for Yarn C. Yarns B and C will not be worked next to each other and this looks particularly good with three tones of one colour but means that you could work this shawl in two colours using Yarn B for all rows indicated B or C though you will then require two skeins of Yarn B. This pattern works beautifully with Merino Silk singles but any fingering weight yarn would work.
IMPORTANT: If using skeins with less than 400m/100g then an additional skein of Yarn A may be required.
Circular Needles: 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) and 5mm (US 8) about 1.5m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should have good drape.
You will also need: stitch markers, just under 450 size 6 Miyuki or Toho seed beads (as written – it works really well with beads that match Yarn A), needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats, cro-tat needle or small crochet hook for applying beads as all beads are applied to the stitch as you knit. Do not string beads onto the yarn prior to working.
Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a shawl. It is better to knit a swatch to ensure that you are happy with your tension and the drape of your fabric remembering that a looser gauge will result in additional yardage requirements. However, the gauge achieved was 21 sts to 4” before blocking and 18 sts to 4” after – measurement taken over Chart 2 using 3.75mm (US 5) needles.

You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer or colour bead placement and aspects of the pattern in coloured pencils.

The pattern is both fully written and charted throughout.
