Nete beanie
Nete was one of the three daughters of Apollo, and the name of the lowest of the seven notes of the lyre.
The Nete beanie begins with a tubular cast on, which makes the cast on edge neat and stretchy, although instructions are provided for the long tail cast on method as well. The brim is worked in a 2x2 rib that flows into a beautiful cable pattern. Finish the hat by adding a pompom.
Size
One size
For head circumferences of 54–58 cm / 21–23 inches
Finished circumference: 48 cm / 19 inches
Length with brim folded double: 24 cm / 9.5 inches
Yarn
Note: The hat uses a strand of fingering weight yarn held together with a strand of lace weight yarn, but they can be substituted for a single strand of DK weight yarn. If you wish to work a DK weight version, omit all the instructions where it says “hold the yarns together” and follow only the yarn amount requirements for the fingering weight yarn.
300 m / 330 yards of fingering weight yarn and 300 m / 330 yards lace weight silk mohair
Sample: 2 skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Loft (100% wool; 251 m / 275 yards per, 50g), shown in Woodsmoke and 2 balls of Knitting For Olive Soft Silk Mohair (70% mohair, 30% silk; 225 m / 246 yards per 25 g), shown in colorway Linen.
Needles
3 mm / US 2.5 circular needles with a cable of 40 cm / 16 inches for the brim

3.5 mm / US 4 double pointed needles or a circular needle with a cable suitable for small circumference knitting for the top of the hat
Note: Always use the needle size that gets you the right gauge!
Gauge

25 sts and 28 rounds = 10 cm / 4 inches over cable pattern on larger needles
Notions
