NIEVE
In Spanish, NIEVE means snow, perfect for this time of year! Winter’s just around the corner in the Northern Hemisphere, and I’m delighted to bring you a pattern that celebrates the changing seasons. With no designated gauge, feel free to use any yarn you choose – I recommend a size 3, or DK weight, and at least half a hook size less than suggested on the label.
All mosaic double crochets are worked into front loop of round in like color two rounds below. Each round’s stitch count includes front loops worked, and corner 2-chain spaces except for starting chains. This mosaic crochet square is worked in the round, incorporating both overlay mosaic crochet elements as well as overlay crochet techniques that highlight its unique texture. The magic ring creates its foundation, and tails can be worked over in the rounds that follow to ensure work is neat with less ends to weave in. Rounds are worked without turning along with stitch counts provided in parentheses.
I’ve introduced a new stitch to this pattern dubbed the mosaic front-post double crochet stitch, i.e., MFPDC as used in abbreviated terms throughout work. Although you may recognize it works up much like a Double Crochet Together (DC2tog) stitch I wanted to highlight its color-carrying utility. Color changes for each round are worked using slip stitches at the end of the previous round as designated. I dedicate this pattern to my beautiful late mother whose life and work touched so many. Happy Hooking, loves! ֍
