Nina's Caribou Mittens
Nina’s Caribou Mittens are but one regional example of the Newfoundland trigger finger mitten - a mitten that has an extra digit free for ease of movement! What makes Nina’s pattern so unique is the iconic caribou stranding on the front of her work.
This attempts to put on paper a pattern that exists largely in the memory of Newfoundland knitters, and as such it is more of a guideline than a set of strict rules. Keep this in mind when using the pattern, and feel free to think like a Newfoundland knitter – add stitches as needed, change things that don’t suit the mitten, and use your resourceful and creative nature make it work!
Please carefully review the pattern notes and suggested materials before starting the pattern. The different mitten sizes are achieved by using larger or smaller needles, as well as by varying the type of yarn used!
