This project is knit lengthwise in a slipstitch patten inspired by the one used in “Blythe” by Jane Ellison, published in Noro Family. The scarf is constructed in such a way that the stockinette background is created by breaking the yarn at the end of every row and rejoining it on the opposite end so that you are nearly always knitting on the right side of the piece and thus avoid purling the 288 stitches. This method does create a lot of tails, but if you’re a fan of fringe on scarves like I am, simply trim them to the appropriate length once the piece is finished and let ‘em hang out -- just think, a project that requires no purling and no weaving in ends!
