Noggin Cove
The second of five of the Noggin Cove Islands Collection, Noggin Cove are mostly sideways mittens featuring striking Fair Isle and a little panel of a traditional Shetland lace motif, Da Flee from wrist to thumb tip. Half of the Fair Isle is worked first, then stitches are picked up to work the remaining half. The sides of the hand are filled in and finished with the Modified 3-needle BO, then the thumb is worked in a unique construction from gusset to tip. The gusset is worked flat and transitions to working the thumb in the round. The mittens are finished with ribbing to desired cuff length. The pattern is written with a steeked option (Fair Isle in the round) and a non-steeked option (Fair Isle flat).
Stay tuned for the 5th piece! Coming in 2025.
Lace and colourwork are charted only.

Needles and Notions
The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
Size A: 2.5mm (US 1.5) 80cm / 32” circular needles for single colour St st and single colour rounds in Fair Isle bands; 100cm / 40” or longer for magic loop or DPNs for thumb.
Size B: 3mm (US 2.5) 80cm / 32” circular needles for multi colour rounds in Fair Isle bands.
You will also need: spare needles or interchangeable cables for holding sts, 3mm to 3.5mm (US D-3 to E-4) crochet hook for surface crochets along the very centre of the Fair Isle bands, a needle at least 2 sizes smaller than your ribbing needle for the Jeny’s Stretch BO, stitch markers.
