Nordkyn Hat
PATTERN NOTES
The Nordkyn Hat weaves together Estonian and Norwegian knitting traditions into a winter companion made for chasing the Northern Lights—or simply braving a cold day outdoors.
It features techniques including a striking Roosimine Estonian inlay, followed by a bold stripe of Ruhnu vits or Ruhnu braid, a distinctive variation of the vikkel lateral braid. The rhythmic colourwork that crowns the hat is inspired by a classic Norwegian fisherman’s sweater known as Islender.
Designed for warmth as well as beauty, the Nordkyn Hat features a doubled brim and dense colourwork to keep out the cold. As a thoughtful finishing touch, the double brim neatly hides the yarn ends and wrong side of the Roosimine inlay—proof that practical details can be just as satisfying as decorative ones.
