Norfolk Pines are majestic pine trees native to Australia. This cowl captures their essence in a quick and engaging project suitable for beginners. The beautiful pattern of mini pine trees is combined with plain stockinette and is a wonderful opportunity to use a single skein of 8 ply (DK weight) yarn to create a stylish and useful neck accessory. Knit from the bottom up, the cleverly hidden decreases in the knitted fabric give this cowl a conical shape echoing the pine cones of this grand species of tree.

The cowl is worked in the round, in one piece, starting from the wide (bottom) end. Decreases occur at the end of each section, hidden behind the tops of the pine trees in the last round.

Materials: 1 ball Adagio Mills Alpaca 8 ply (DK weight) - 100% Australian Alpaca (190 metres/208 yards per 100 grams). Pictured in Grey Mist. Actual amount used for the sample was 93 grams (177 metres/193 yards). If using a yarn with generous yardage, the bottom and top edge can be extended by increasing the number of repeats.

Gauge
: 22 stitches & 34 rounds = 10 cm (4”) in stockinette stitch.
