NORTH COAST GANSEY

……….

It might seem counterintuitive to describe a chunky knit as a summertime jumper. But if you’ve ever holidayed in Ireland, you know it is just the thing you need!

The North Coast in particular is known for its wild, breathtaking scenery… and equally, for its bracing sea breeze.

Even on hot sunny days, on the beaches it is not an uncommon sight to see swimsuit bottoms paired with heavy jumpers on top.

With its easy boxy fit, roomy sleeves, split hem, shoulder buttons for extra ventilation, and of course playful nautical stripes, the North Coast Gansey will ensure you are dressed for Northern Summer and beyond.

The North Coast Gansey is part of the Studio Donegal Soft Chunky Pattern Collection

YARN NOTES
The key to getting this sweater right, is choosing a yarn that is just warm enough, but not overly warm. Aim for a merino, or cotton blend that is not plied too tightly (a ‘flat’ rather than bouncy yarn).

Ideal for the task, Studio Donegal Soft Chunky is a loosely plied merino that knits up into a versatile fabric. It feels dry and cooling next to skin, almost cotton-like, and is truly perfect for days out on Northern coastal walks and beaches.

ADAPTING TO ARAN WEIGHT YARNS

This pattern can be adapted to Aran-weight yarns, albeit with a limited sizing range (up to 141cm/ 56.5” chest circumference)
. This is explained in the pattern notes.
