North Island Yoke Cardigan
Late August on Unst, the northernmost inhabited island of the Shetland archipelago. Treeless green and gold hills. Water on every side, changing colors from moment to moment. Heather turning to rust, leaving just a memory of purple flowers.
The North Island Yoke Cardigan has a deep patterned yoke in 10 colors of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift fingering-weight yarn in traditional geometric motifs. In true Fair Isle fashion only two colors are used in each round. The body is a deep blue with specks of turquoise.
The North Island Yoke Cardigan is a seamless yoke sweater that is knit in the round from the bottom up—the sleeves and body are joined at the underarm. Short rows drop the front neck to give the yoke a flattering fit; the cardigan’s classic shape makes it a go-to choice for all seasons. Instructions for 6 sizes—from 33” to 53”—are given.
Instructions for steeking and for spacing the buttonholes are included in the pattern.
Please note that the sweater is photographed at a very loose fit, so the patterning falls lower on the arms/bust than it would with a closer fit.
