Not Your Grandma's Duster
For those who don’t know about Dusters they were originally utilitarian in nature. Their main function was to keep the dust off of your clothing while travelling. Thus the name, Duster. My Grandma wore one around the house when she was cleaning for the same reason. Dusters have come a long way! Because we no longer ride horses or drive around in Model T Fords, we no longer need protection from the dust. That doesnt mean they no long serve a purpose.
This duster is meant to enhance your outfit and is appropriate to wear with your favorite, jeans, leggings or floral skirt, depending on your mood.
It is worked in one piece from side to side.
The cast on is the right front edge, the bind off is the left front edge. Because of this, a crochet CO is recommended, but not required.
SWT short rows are used extensively to create shoulders and a gentle A-line shape using mostly garter stitch. Wraps are not picked up because they disappear into the garter pattern. Of course, you can always substitute your favorite short row method!
Deep armholes are made using waste yarn. An eyelet edge is worked in the round on the live stitches created when the waste yarn is removed.
The pattern is written in 3 different sizes: S, M, and L. However; it can easily be adjusted to larger sizes by adding one more repeat to each lace sectins. This will add 4” (10 cm) to the cross-back measurements and approximately 350 yd (320 m) to yarn requirements..
Although there is shaping, it is meant to be worn as a loose flowing garment. Because of the minimal structure, measurements are based on Cross Back. To find this number ask a friend to measure you across your back from armhole to armhole or measure your favorite top from armhole to armhole and select the size with your prefered amount of ease.
Sizing details:

The pattern includes links to a video of the Crochet Cast On and a photo tutorial for an alternative method for removing waste yarn and catching live stitches.
