Part bird, part snake, Occamys are beautiful, territorial, jewel-toned creatures that hatch out of silver eggs. With a birdlike beak, plumage on their heads, and large purple wings, their snakelike bodies are covered in scales, and they survive on a diet of bugs, rats, and birds. Occamys are choranaptyxic, meaning they can fit into spaces as small as a teapot or as large as a room. The Occamy was one of the most difficult creatures to design for the first Fantastic Beasts movie, since its visual qualities weren’t 100 percent defined when the artists started working. It could have been anything!

Starting with a lace hem on the body, this pullover is worked in the round from the bottom up to the armpit with yarn held doubled. Sleeves are worked separately from the cuff up, then attached to the body. Traditional raglan decreases are made while stranded colorwork Occamy feathers and scales are worked at the same time. A simple 1x1 ribbed collar is worked, then folded over and seamed for double thickness.
