This year’s little mystery pattern was extracted from the border design on the Beloved Alphabet blankets. Learn more about Ashlee’s mystery designs at https://ashleeslint.com/2023/11/07/october-mystery-patterns/

There are two files included: one for each colorwork technique (interlocking crochet and overlay mosaic crochet). Each file has the fully written pattern and a chart.

The pattern is written in a repeatable fashion so you can make your project as wide and tall as you want.

Interlocking Crochet
• Chart is 41 x 23, repeatable area 34 x 17
• Gauge: 8 (dc, ch) x 8 rows = 4”
• 5 mm (US7) crochet hook
• Each repeat 10.25” x 5.75” / 26cm x 15cm
• Worsted weight yarn (130 yards total per repeat)
o Main color (MC) / mystery design – 70 yards
o Accent color (AC) / background – 60 yards

Overlay Mosaic Crochet
• Chart 35 x17
• Gauge: 14 stitches x 15 rows = 4”
• 5 mm hook (H-8)
• Finished size 10” x 4” / 25cm x 11.5cm
• Worsted weight yarn (65 - 135 yards per repeat)
o Main Color (background) – 40 yards
o Contrasting Color (design) – 25 yards
o Optional envelope border – 70 yards

The Locked Filet Mesh (LFM) interlocking crochet method uses only chain spaces and double crochets to create a mesh; two colors are worked alternately which creates the pattern.

Mosaic crochet is single crochet and double crochet stitches. The double crochet stitches cover some of the other color’s single crochet stitches to create the design. My patterns instruct you to cut your yarn at the end of each row. The back is striped but often gives a faint impression of the pattern on the front (sort of like illusion knitting). See an example here.
