Pattern Description from A Fine Fleece: “October Frost is my homage to the oldest denizens of the forest. Those stately trees have long since been stripped of their leaves, bark, and life’s sap. They stand silent and alone, offering themselves as food and homes to birds, squirrels, raccoons, and porcupines. After November has whisked the colorful leaves of younger trees to the wind, the ageless beauty of these trunks is a testament to their integrity. Beginning with the image of crystalline frost on a weathered brown leaf, I chose shining white mohair to blend with soft cinnamon Rambouillet/Romney crossbreed wool. The adult mohair has a larger micron count, which makes a rugged statement in this personality-filled soft yarn. This makes for a welcoming sweater-jacket for crisp, sun-filled days. Even softer to the hand is the llama and wool blend Montera from Classic Elite Yarns, with its silky halo and chunky stitch definition. Only the boldest of cables could represent the intertwined branches of an old-growth forest. The back panel of the cardigan displays a trio of cables gracefully twining upward, flanked by knot-holed trunks. The twined trunks on the fronts have been reduced to a pair, and the sleeves feature a single, matronly tree trunk with the knothole cable continuing into the saddle.”
