Oh Babe!
This completely reversible blanket or shawl can be worked in any size yarn with suitable needles. Lacy squares alternate on a double seed stitch background.
Knitting begins at one corner and continues until the desired size is obtained. For a square blanket or throw, increasing rows are followed by decreasing rows when the size is achieved or half the yarn has been consumed. For a triangular shawl, the last increasing rows are worked in double seed stitch then the shawl is bound off loosely. Instructions are also given to create a rectangle (as shown in the deep red worsted weight example).
The piece is worked flat on needles that are long enough to accommodate the stitches along diameter of the completed square or hypotenuse of the completed triangle.
The turquoise blanket shown used 735 yards (672 meters) of a sport weight wool/cotton blend on size US 6 (4.0 mm) needles. It is 36” by 36” (diagonal is about 51”). The deep red afghan used 1200 yards on size US 8 (4.0 mm) needles and is 44” by 57”.
Make a small square as a sample and use it as a wash cloth! Stitches used: knit, purl, ssk, k2tog, and yo.
A big thank you to nscollins for proofing the pattern.
