Old Magic
Long ago, through the mists of time, when the Earth was wild and mysterious; the collective knowledge of healing was steeped in superstition and lore. Many relied on little more than herbs, spells and Old Magic to heal the sick. Their faith and rituals were often all that stood between the future and utter despair…
Old Magic is the final design in my Looking Back Series. It is a large shawl that has a lovely drape and just the perfect amount of volume. The allover lace pattern is beautiful to behold (but simple to work) and the possibilities for the undulating waves of color at the edge are nearly endless!
To begin working this shawl, you will create a garter neck band. Turning the work 90 degrees, stitches are picked up in a similar fashion to a traditional garter tab cast on and the shawl is worked in 6 sections. The extra fullness provided by the Beginning and End Wings will allow the shawl to wrap cozily around you and stay in place—no fussing with a shawl slipping off your shoulders! The Sparkle Lace motif is worked throughout the body of the fabric, transitioning to intriguing waves of Old Shale lace, punctuated by a gradient of color flowing through the end of the shawl.
Instructions are provided charted and fully written for your convenience. A very special Thank You! to my fabulous group of testers, and my ever vigilant TE Liz Halla-Mattingly.
