The Reed College Library is captured in all its Gothic glory in this classic pleated skirt. The colors are drawn from the colors of the brick and stone exterior. The cables on the yoke evoke the arches and tall windows found throughout the building while the cables at the hem represent the twining ivy vines.
This is a very easy and fun skirt to wear. The yoke fits close through the hips to flatter the figure. The pleats flip open when the wearer walks to reveal flashes of contrasting color. The cable detail at the hem is continuous when the pleats are flat but separate into discrete sections when the pleats open for great visual interest. The yoke has a button closure at one side. The lower skirt is held closed with a traditional kilt pin. Even now when I visit campus I am still drawn back to this magnificent building just as the Old Reed skirt is sure to be the piece that you are drawn to every time you open your closet!
