Part of the Twaafald Tunic pair, the Old Shale Tunic provides a canvas for the beauty of the traditional Old Shale lace stitch. Like its counterpart, the Feather & Fan Tunic, the sweater is knit from the top down in two sections (front and back). Both front and back are knit by first casting on shoulder stitches, knitting them down, then joining. Note the pattern of the ripples: the structure of the lace pattern includes a balanced number of increases and decreases, creating smooth and even waves of color.
