Old Timer

Old Timer is the first Icelandic sweater that I designed. It has two alternatives, one with pattern starting already in the body and sleeves and the other, with pattern starting in the yoke as usual.
The model is feminine with waist shaping, but if you leave that out, it is a unisex model.
The yarn used is in the picture is double Plötulopi, but you can use double Lettlopi or Alafosslopi instead just as well. Just be sure to adjust the gauge accordingly.

Old Timer sweater is quick to knit. As with many Icelandic garments, the sleeves are knitted first, followed by the body, and the yoke comes last, combining everything into a completed garment. The front and back of the sweater are the same, so it can be worn either way. You will have no trouble knitting with this pattern!

The wool of Icelandic sheep has adapted to the harsh conditions of the northern island country and is characterized by its ability to withstand wind and moisture. In Iceland, garments made of this wool are used both indoors and outdoors, depending on their thickness. Wearing the Icelandic dress, you can go out in temperatures below zero just as easily as in a drizzle, especially once you have made the fabric ”bloom” with finishing touches and wear.
The best Finnish alternative to Icelandic wool is perhaps the wool of Åland sheep. If the wool’s properties in outdoor activities are not essential to your sweater, you can replace the wool of Icelandic sheep with any local alternative you like. Always ensure your gauge matches the pattern by knitting a swatch.

Old Timer islantilaisneule on ihana ulkoiluvaate perinteitä ja lämpöä arvostavalle neulojalle. Se on neulottu Álafosslopista tai kaksinkertaisesta Plötulopista. Old Timer on todella nopea, helppo ja yksinkertainen neuloa. Suunnittelin alkuperäisen paidan jo vuonna 2018 ja tein nyt ohjeesta päivitetyn version; alkuperäisessä paidassa kuviot alkavat vasta kaarrokkeessa ja uudessa versiossa jo hihoissa ja vartalossa. Uudemmassa versiossa on myös korkea poolokaulus.
Malliin ei alunperin kuulu huppu, mutta voit helposti yhdistää siihen jonkin muun ohjeen hupun.
Islanninlampaiden villa on kehittynyt pohjoisen saarivaltion karuihin oloihin ja sille onkin ominaista hyvä tuulen ja kosteuden sieto. Islannissa näistä villoista tehtyjä vaatteita käytetään vähän paksuudesta riippuen sekä sisä- että ulkovaatteina.
Islantilaisneuleessa voi ulkoilla hyvin pikku pakkasillakin tai pienessä vesisateessa, varsinkin kun vaatteen pinta on päässyt jälkikäsittelyn ja käytön myötä pörhentymään.
