Olive’s Onesie is a simple all-in-one babysuit with feet. It is worked from the top down using 1 strand of either Merino or Cotton Merino. An opening on the inside of the legs and a small opening on the front of the raglan yoke simplify diaper changing and dressing. Both openings are closed with buttons. The back is shaped with German short rows.
You start working the ribbed neckband and the upper part of the yoke back and forth before continuing with the rest of the yoke and body in the round down to the crotch. Here, work is divided and each leg and foot finished separately. The heel is an inserted type heel, also called ‘peasant heel’ or ‘forethought heel’ and it is very similar to an ‘afterthought heel’ – the heel stitches are knit onto a spare piece of yarn and then picked back up and the heel completed after the rest of the foot is finished. The sleeves are worked from the top down and finished with ribbed cuffs. Lastly, stitches are picked up for the button bands along the inner legs, and the button band is finished in ribbing.
