One-Act
In theatre, a one-act play is a form of drama that is written in one act. In knitting, the One-Act hat uses a single skein of super bulky yarn and one clever knit-one-below stitch to keep your head warm in a hurry.
This pattern is An Etcgirl Quickie - a quick-to-knit project that uses 1-2 balls of yarn and simple stitching. Etcgirl Quickies are value-priced patterns that you’ll reach for again and again.
Choose a super-bulky weight yarn that has a smooth texture, approx. 90 y/82 m per 100g. Note that the super bulky category contains a VERY wide range of gauges - look for something with a stated gauge of 8-10 sts per 4 in/10 cm.
Due to the stitch pattern this finished hat is very stretchy.
Yarn Requirements: Pink version shown in Madelinetosh A.S.A.P. (100% wool; 90 y/82 m per 3.5 oz/100 g), colour Barbara Deserved Better; 63 (76, 90, 106) y/58 (69, 82, 97) m or 1 (1, 1, 2) skein(s). Note that the third size used nearly all of one skein - you may wish to have additional yarn for swatching or insurance.
Needles: US 11/8 mm circular needle 16 in/40 cm in length for brim; US 15/10 mm circular needle 16 in/40 cm for body, plus US 15/10 mm needles for working a small circumference in the round - double-pointed, two circulars, or magic loop as you prefer.
Notions: Stitch marker, locking stitch markers or safety pins, darning needle. Optional: one crochet hook any size from G-J/4-6 mm.
This pattern has been professionally tech-edited and test knit.
