Opus 2104
Pair of handles for a tote bag, knitted from t-shirt yarn on two needles. They are soft but non-stretchy, and of medium strength. Can be adjusted for longer length if you add more yarn and cord.
Requirements
Yarn
• Approx 53 g or 19yd/17m of ragyarn, i.e. a t-shirt cut into strips 0.5in/1.5cm wide.
• 2.5 yd/2.3m of non-stretchy nylon or cotton cord, string or yarn, of thickness roughly similar to DK, aran or worsted yarn. Note: the strength of your bag handles depends on the strength of this cord.
Needles: two dpns
• Metric: 8mm; UK and Canadian: size 0; US: size 11
Sewing notions to join strips of yarn when cutting, for repairing broken yarn while knitting and for sewing ragyarn bindings at ends of handles
Four small squares of fabric approx 4in/10cm square, to hide the ends of your handles when attached to the bag (unless the bag is lined).
Glue or nail varnish: small amount to seal 4 knots in cord.
The pattern contains full instructions for creating the recycled yarn, knitting and attaching handles to bag. Note: the pattern is for handles only.
