O’Regan’s

With incredibly striking Fair Isle patterning, O’Regan’s is worked top down with modified raglan sleeves. All colourwork is in the round and only 1-2 colours are worked each round. I recommend using an awesome variegated skein for colour C5 to get the full effect.

At the end of March, I suddenly was really craving a raglan with lots of colorwork. Right away I went looking for 6 colors that felt right. I showed my husband (he paints mini figures so he loves looking at color combinations) and he said, “oh those are really cool …..buuuut, I’m not so sure about that orange one. It looks out of place…”. I scoffed :)

That orange variegated one is C5 in the pattern. And I’ve positioned the C5 in a way to achieve a really interesting effect if you use a variegated skein, even if it’s super variegated.

Intended to be worn with about 5 to 15cm / 2 to 6” of positive ease at bust. Sample shown is the size 3 on 87cm / 34.25” bust, corresponding to 20cm / 8” of ease. A list of measurements and schematic is provided on page 2.

Yarn

Wild Atlantic Yarns Oonagh 4ply (100% superwash merino; 400 metres / 437 yards in 100 grams) in 6 colours with approximate amounts listed below. If using the same yarn, the number of skeins is also given.

• Note 1: If you add extra bands of Fair Isle you will need more yarn of the colours involved in the added bands.
• Note 2: If you make your hem longer, you will need more C1.
• Note 3: The amount of C3 listed is for 5cm / 2” long cuffs. If you make your cuffs longer, you will need more C3; approximately 80 metres / 87 yards more of C3 for 12cm / 4.75” long cuffs.

Gauge

To find your needle size, you need to swatch in Fair Isle (and also stockinette if you’re unsure of whether your gauge changes between single-colour and multi-colour rounds).

Fair Isle: 28 sts / 32 rnds to 10cm / 4” using size B needles.

Stockinette: 28 sts / 36 rnds to 10cm / 4” using size A needles.

Needles & Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 3mm (US 2.5)
Size B: 3.5mm (US 4)

circular needles of varying lengths and desired needles for small circumference knitting.

You will also need:
spare interchange cables or spareneedles or scrap yarn for holding stitches; stitch markers.
