Orion features a Nordic-inspired, allover colorwork pattern that flows smoothly into the crown decreases. The body and crown of the hat are entirely charted.

SIZES

(S, M, L) To fit (adult s, adult m, adult lg)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Hat circumference: (18, 21, 24) inches / (45, 52.5, 60) cm

Hat height: (7.5, 8.75, 10.25) inches / (19, 22, 25.5) cm

Choose the size closest to the recipient’s head circumference. Stranded colorwork is typically less stretchy than regular stockinette.

YARN

(1, 1, 1) skein  Festivus 9.0 Sport in red (MC) and (1, 1, 1) skein Festivus 9.0 Sport in white (CC).

Or (155, 190, 230) yards / (142, 174, 211) meters MC, (45, 55, 65) yards / (42, 51, 60) meters CC sport weight yarn.

NEEDLES

One 32-inch (80 cm) US size 5 (3.75 mm) (or size needed to obtain gauge), and one 32-inch (80 cm) US size 3 (3.25 mm) (or two whole sizes smaller than gauge needle) circular knitting needles.

Note: Magic loop is used for all small circumference knitting in my patterns. If you prefer, you can use a smaller length circular needle or double pointed needles of the same sizes to work the hat.
NOTIONS

Stitch marker, and a tapestry needle.

GAUGE

24 stitches and 28 RNDS = 4 inches / 10 cm in allover colorwork pattern on US size 5 (3.75 mm) needles.
