A hat I saw when I was traveling had a townscape going all the way around it. It inspired me to document, in a hat, an homage to places that bring me joy. My husband grew up in a small farming community. When our own kids were young, we bought a home in Vermont which has a lovely, small feel. Here is “Our Town” which is not so much a particular place, but any place that brings the small town feeling home. It has a barn, a pickup truck, flags, hills and trees and of course, homes.

Our Town comes in two Adult sizes: Sm/Med & Large.

It is knit in worsted weight* and is a quick knit, not nearly as hard as it may look to do.

Smaller yarns with appropriately sized needles can be substituted to make smaller sizes but instructions for doing so are not included here. Fingering, size 2 & 3 needles, DK weight, size 4 & 5 needles etc…

Also, some small modifications have been made to the chart to increase clarity of the design. All motifs shown in hats above remain as seen. Dark red hat has the final charts, main difference is the snow on the mountains is solid in the final version.

Finished Circumference: appr 19.75 (21) inches / 48.25 (53.5) cm
Finished Height: appr 10.5 (10.5) inches / 24 (26.75) cm

Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows = 4 in / 10 cm stranded stockinette st, blocked

Row gauge matters here to the height of the hat. If you are getting fewer rows per 4 inches, then the hat will be a bit taller. If getting more rows per 4 inches, then work extra rounds per instructions
before beginning decrease rounds..
