Je Suis Prest (French) - “I am ready.” This is the Motto of the clan Fraser. The spelling is different from the french used today. It is an ancient form of French; in the modern form, the “s” has been replaced by the diacritical mark. The Fraser motto uses the old spelling.

Diana Gabaldon was questioned on her choice of spelling and this is her reply: “In response to those helpful souls who think I cannot speak French--you’re dead right. I do, however, do good research. And while the modern French word for “ready” is indeed “pret” (with a circumflex over the “e”)--the Fraser of Lovat clan motto is from a much earlier century when that word was spelled “prest.” And “Je suis _prest_” is indeed the motto of Clan Fraser of Lovat. If you have a problem with this, I suggest you take it up with the Frasers. (And if you do--please come back and tell me what they said. )
