Overnight Success!
Overnight Success with a classic, triangle-shaped shawl, knit-purl center “spine”, big yarn on big needles. Yep, “overnight success” says it all. This super-bulky shawl, knit on US#15s and using approx. 200yds, is a great project for those just beginning to go beyond rectangular scarves. Simple (and easy to track) increases, knits/purls/yarn-overs, and a simple bind off! But this is also a great project for the experienced knitter as the pattern is easy to memorize and the knitting is rhythmic.
The sample shown used 5 skeins of Knit Picks’ Alla Prima – a super bulky, 100% merino wool that is so wonderful to knit. The stitchess come out evenly and on US15s, the knitting gives instant gratification. The colorway shown here, “Kaleidoscope”, is a carnival of color – sure to brighten the gloomy day when this thick and cozy shawl would serve well.
The directions are written and charted for your convenience.
• Approx. 250 yds super bulky merino wool – sample used 5 skeins of Knit Picks’ Alla Prima in Kaleidoscope.
• US #15 needles – circs (32” length) are best to keep the increasing number of sts on the needles
• 2 or more stitch markers (I prefer the locking type, moving as needed)
• Big-eye tapestry needle to tuck in ends
• Blocking board/pins to lightly block the finished shawl
Notes:
• This shawl starts with a garter tab to allow the top edge to have a complete garter edge from end to end. If you would prefer NOT to work a garter tab, CO 22sts and knit one row – continue directions below the garter tab directions.
• Always start every row by slipping the first st as if to purl. This gives a lovely chain edge to the shawl.
