Overtones
Overtones is the perfect cowl for sped and colour play.
A quick knit in chunky or super bulky yarns, it also works beautifully with yarns that have lots of character. The pattern is simple and creates an interesting texture with oblique raised lines running at an angle in one colour, and subtle texture lines running across the current in the under colour. The result is a very warm, snuggly cowl which is narrow enough to be worn like a scarf, but without the risk of falling off and being left on a train somewhere.
Designed with travel knitting in mind, it uses a short formula which is easy to memorise so you can knit on the bus, the train, or while chatting at knit night.
Play with pairing a solid yarn with a variegated, or two contrasting colours, or knitting a gradient yarn from both ends.
Knitting By The Seat Of Your Pants 2 is a collection of 5 mostly garter projects in a variety of shapes, focussing on simple yet interesting 4 row construction. Designed with travel knitting in mind, it uses a short formula which is easy to memorise so you can knit on the bus, the train, or while chatting at knit night without needing to carry the pattern around with you all the time.
Each of these patterns can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from the chart with notes.
Gauge is not critical with this project. This page lists 8mm needles, which is what we’re used for the sample, but please adjust your needle size to suit your own yarn. This design is suited to a range of weights from worsted to super bulky, and adaptable to any yardage.
