PACIFIC COWL

For a long time I have wanted to design a cowl with cables, cables, cables :slightly_smiling_face: A cowl with cable patterns on the neckline moving onto saddle shoulders, and with plenty of cables on the front and back. The result is the Pacific Cowl, named after one of the great oceans of the world.
 
The cowl is a speedy knit (knit on 7 mm needles. Alternatively you can use 6.5 mm or 8 mm needles), knit top-down starting with a neck-hugging polo neck with cable patterns on the sides. The cable pattern continues over the saddle shoulders with increases on each side and cable pattern over the front and back. Later the front and back are split and the cowl is worked flat and finished with Italian bind off to give a stretchy feel.
 
The garment is a relatively tight knit, yet the cable pattern and yarn used are quite stretchy, but if you want a looser fit, consider knitting with 8 mm needles.

MATERIALS
I have used 7 mm needles for the cowl. Those needles are hard to come by in some parts of the world. Use 6.5 mm or 8 mm needles instead but beware that this will change the size a bit.

YARN
The gauge is 14 sts / 20 rows over 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in). I have used a combination of yarn bases from Filcolana; Peruvian Highland Wool (Aran) and glittery Paia (lace). You can choose other bulky yarn bases with similar gauge.
