About the Pattern

As a young Lieutenant in the Air Force, I was absolutely spoiled to be stationed in the central coast of California for my first assignment, as a student at the Naval Postgraduate School. While there, I met my husband, an Army Captain - we sat next to each other in class for almost an entire semester before we worked up the nerve to talk to each other… And I guess you could say, everything else is history! We are celebrating our ten year anniversary this year and have two cute kiddos who consume all our free time. This shawl would have been perfect for all the cool evenings that we spent walking along the coast in Pacific Grove.

This long asymmetrical triangular shawl features lots of soothing garter stitch, stripes, mosaic colorwork, and ends with a lovely I-cord bind off.

Approximate Measurements
Length Along Top Edge: 90” (229 cm)
Depth: 14” (36 cm)

Suggested Yarn:
La Jolla by Baah Yarns; 100 % SW Merino; 400 yds (365 m); 115 g (4.1 oz); Fingering Weight in:
Color A: “Blue Winged Teal” 1 skein or 375 yds (343 m); 108 g (3.8 oz) needed
Color B: “Coral Bay” 1 skein or 369 yds (337 m); 106 g (3.8 oz) needed

Or a similar fingering weight yarn. Choose solid or mostly solid colored yarn that has good stitch definition and select colors that have enough contrast to allow the colorwork to stand out.

Needles:
US6 (4.0 mm) and US7 (4.5 mm) circular needle, or size to obtain gauge at least 40” (102 cm) long.

Notions:
Tapestry needle, stitch markers (11)

Gauge:
21 sts / 38 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Garter Stitch using US 6 (4.0 mm) and in Mosaic Colorwork using US 7 (4.5 mm) after a light blocking
Exact gauge is not critical in this pattern but will affect the size of the shawl and yarn requirements.

Techniques Required:
Mosaic colorwork, standard increases/decreases, I-cord bind off.
