The famous Impressionist painter Claude Monet once said, “My finest masterpiece is my garden.” Taking inspiration from Monet’s beloved gardens, the Painter’s Garden Blanket combines vibrant colors and luscious textures in a painterly landscape you can curl up under.
This project invites you to be the painter embarking on your next work of art. If this idea is a bit intimidating, that’s okay—the pattern as written uses a self-striping yarn that will do all the colorwork for you to produce the blanket shown here. If the idea of painting a blanket ignites your creativity, feel free to run with it! Here are some ideas to get you started:
Choose a self-striping yarn in one color for the motifs and another color for the sections in between. Or crochet multicolored motifs with a new color in each round and use a solid color for the granny stitch sections. This blanket also makes for a wonderful scrap yarn project. Let your imagination be your guide!
This entertaining project combines a variety of stitches, including puffs, popcorns, spike stitches, and granny stitches. Square- and triangle-shaped floral motifs are joined as you go. Granny stitch sections are worked outward from the motif panels. Side 1 is worked from the center out, then Side 2 is worked from the center out on the opposite side.
Finally, choose between two edging options to frame your blanket masterpiece!
Three detailed photo tutorials will guide you as you crochet the motifs and assemble them into panels, and then work the granny stitch sections between panels.

Yarn Notes
• Pattern is designed for medium-weight yarn. Lighter or heavier weight yarns may be used. A different weight yarn may require a different size hook, as well as more or less yarn than noted.
• Different yarns may be used for the different sections of the blanket, but they must closely match in weight. For instance, if you use a yarn for the granny stitch sections that is heavier than the yarn you used for the motif panels, the fabric will warp or ripple. If your yarn for the granny stitch sections is lighter, the sides of the blanket will pull in.
• Total yarn needed for motifs = approx. 628g (1570m/1717 yds)
• Total yarn needed for granny stitch sections = approx. 882g (2205m/2411 yds)
• Pattern includes a full breakdown of yardage needed for blanket, each individual motif, each panel, and granny stitch sections to help you plan your blanket.
