Painter's Rag Shawl
Absolutely loving yarns with bright pops of color and eagerly knitting up a swatch of each, I realized that I am not brave enough to wear a garment knit in only one “color”. However, combining skeins shows just enough of each, that I dare to wear – while also solving the perennial question of “What do I make with that 1 skein of yarn I loved so much that I HAD TO buy it?!!”
Knit and bunched up on my lap, this shawl with streaks and smudges peeking through resembles a Painter’s Rag!
Painter’s Rag Shawl is a large side to side, worked-flat knit. Style it as a cowl, drape it over your torso and my favorite – sarong style wrap; minimal striping draws the eyes top to bottom on a diagonal. I see this shawl as a summer staple.
Painter’s Rag Shawl is knit in cotton yarn. Any yarn can be substituted - be sure to adjust needle size accordingly.
The pattern and design are simple and straight forward. If you require a larger size, continue with another skein.
Figuring out your colour sequence:
- A total of 4 yarns, color A, color B, color C and color D, identical except for color are used.
- Color A and B have one common shade somewhere in the skeins. Color A having lighter shades than color B.
- Color C and D have one common shade somewhere in the skeins. Color D having lighter shades than color C.
- Color B and C DO NOT have to have a common shade – they can contrast as in the sample.
