Painting Columns Cowl
This circular cowl is a colorful stashbuster knit with DK weight yarn. Knit stripes and slip stitches in the round as you increase the columns for a tapered shape. The shaped tube is sewn together for a completely reversible and double thick layer of fabric. The slip stitch columns form a beautifully crisp and structured fabric that holds its shape well. Wear the cowl with the wide part covering the back of your head and ears or fold the fabric down for a super thick and warm winter accessory.
Finished Measurements
26″ / 66cm circumference around neck, 13″ / 33cm at widest part, 7″ / 18cm at narrowest part.
Measurements taken after blocking
Yarn
DK weight
You can mix DK and worsted weight yarns together for colorful stripes. Also try holding two strands of fingering weight yarn together to create a DK weight thickness.
Yardage
700yds / 937m total
MC - 400yds / 366m
CC - 300yds / 274m
I used 8 CC’s for the sample, so you can use small bit of DK weight yarn or hole 2 strands of fingering weight yarn together for your CC pops!
The most yardage you need of a single CC is about 60yds / 55m. The smaller, narrower CC sections only used about 30yds / 27m in the first and last sections of the cowl.
If you are using 2 colors for the MC, then you will need 1 skein of each color. The sample features 1 skein light grey + 1 skein medium gray for alternating shades of the MC columns.
Shown in
A variety of DK & worsted weight yarns including West Wool Tandem, La Bien Aimée Corrie Worsted & Corrie Confetti, Undercover Otter Eventide DK.
The grey + color pop sample features two shades of grey for the main colors + 8 CC’s. The grey main colors are West Wool Tandem in Pebble & French Grey.
The multi-color sample features a different color for each MC & CC section.
