Painting Columns Sweater
This graphic sweater is all about showcasing your single skeins and leftover bits of DK or worsted weight yarn. Begin at the collar with a folded hem in twisted ribbing. Short rows in garter stitch raise the back of the neck, so the sweater sits comfortably on your shoulders. Then, continue shaping the yoke with stripes and slip stitches. You only have to work with one color at a time as you customize the colors. The top-down construction makes it easy to try on the sweater as you knit and customize the length of the sleeves and body. Enjoy stashbusting as you knit a colorful collage of columns!
Sizes
1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9)
Sample shown in size 5 with approximately 6″ / 15cm of
positive ease.
Finished Measurements
35 (38, 42, 47, 50) (55, 58, 63, 67)″ / 89 (97, 107, 119, 127) (140, 147, 160, 170)cm chest circumference. Measurements taken after blocking.
I recommend selecting a size that has approximately 2 – 4″/ 5 – 10cm of positive ease.
Measurements are based on a slip stitch gauge of 6 sts = 1″ / 2.5cm in 5x5 slip stitch column pattern after blocking with larger needles.
Yarn
DK weight
You can also use worsted weight yarn striped with your DK weight yarns. Try holding two strands of fingering weight yarn held together for a DK weight thickness too.
Yardage
Approximately 1200 (1300, 1500, 2000, 2300) (2450, 2600, 2750, 2900)yds / 1097 (1189, 1372, 1829, 2103) (2240, 2377, 2515, 2652)m total
I recommend gathering a big pile of DK and worsted weight yarns to knit a fun colorful version. 2 skeins (100g each) of DK weight yarn should be plenty of yarn for the collar, cuffs, and bottom ribbing.
