Pankhurst Shawl
by Anna Elliott
This shawl is knitted from the top down. It is knitted flat but as the rows get longer and longer, we recommend using a circular needle to accommodate the large number of stitches. It features two lace patterns, both of which can be worked either from the charts or the written instructions – whichever you prefer. The first section of lace incorporates a secret ‘V’ and ‘W’, standing for Votes for Women, and it’s knitted in the colours of the suffragette movement – purple for dignity, white for purity and green for hope.
This pattern features in Issue 55, which is available to order on our website. It is also available digitally via our apps for Apple and Android devices and through Pocketmags here.
