Christmas time is one of my favorite times of the year, and I especially love decorating our Christmas tree. I was inspired by the strands of lights and garland, which lend a somewhat linear look to the tree. The shawl uses 12 different colors (50 yards of each) and skinny stripes which simulates those lines. In the first section, there are also slipped stitches, which look a little like the traditional paper chain garland!

When choosing your colors, just make sure that there is contrast between the colors touching each other, and everything will look great. This pattern is written for 12 colors, but can easily be done with fewer! Since you will be using so many colors, I highly recommend labeling them 1-12 (so they don’t get mixed up!). Also, you will be cutting the yarn as you finish with each color, creating lots of ends to weave in. Weaving them in as you go will cut down on finishing time!

Materials
Fingering weight yarn - 50 yards each of 12 different colors. Shown in: the Starry Night Craftvent Kit, available from Jimmy Beans Wool.
US 3-40” circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
Size US 12 (1.0mm) steel crochet hook for placing beads.
25g of size 6/0 beads

Yarn Needle

Gauge
24 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch, unblocked. Gauge is not critical for this project, so just make sure you are happy with the fabric!!
