This pattern accompanies the Learn Something New article, “Attached Edgings.” For this lesson pattern, we will knit a simple lace square. I chose this shape for three reasons. First, it is worked in the round, leaving all four edges with live stitches. Second, it demonstrates how to plan working an edging around a 90-degree corner. And third, it demonstrates how to work an edging where the end meets the beginning.

We’ll begin by working a simple lace square. Then we’ll proceed to add the edging. The design notes and technical tips will walk you through the process of working the doily and adding the edging. Since this is a lesson pattern, I’ve added some “extra” steps to help you learn and also to avoid confusion. These will be noted in Designer Notes and Technical Tips.
