Sometimes called Swedish Basketweave, Entrelac is a method of creating a look of a woven pattern by knitting individual triangles and squares. The technique employs both short-rows and the picking up of stitches. The knitting is not difficult once you understand the concept of how the squares are created. The Entrelac technique creates a diagonal, bias fabric, which is looser, stretchier in nature and is usually knit with smaller needles than the ball band of the yarn would suggest.
Cat Bordi’s moebius technique creats a unique shawl or scarf that is reversible and interesting to knit. Once the cast-on is mastered the knitting progresses as normal. What is different is that the cast-on is the center of your knitting and the coils of your circular needle will start to separate from each other as you add rows to your knitting. You are quite literally knitting in two different directions at once.
We all like to get double duty out of our knitting; these techniques allow us to get that extra bit out of our projects. Entrelac when done in garter stitch, as this project is also becomes reversible and with the addition of lace detailing, creates an interesting fabric to knit and wear.
