Parrish Mitts
The design of these mitts is a result of color play in the palette of the painter and illustrator Maxfield Parrish. Parrish began every piece with a foundation of burnt umber or ultramarine blue paint before building up the image with translucent layers of color. This gave his work a luminescent quality that is unmistakable. The floral motif is inspired by
Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, also an influence in Parrish’s early illustration work.
